Space for Arts – The Inventive Journey

Recently, Space for Arts’ co-founder Van Gothner spoke with Devin Miller for his podcast The Inventive Journey.

A few weeks ago, SfA’s co-founder had a conversation with Devin Miller.  They explored the importance of knowing your customers, competitors and what it means for product success.  Excited to share the conversation here.  Enjoy!

“A production space, what’s the big deal? You can produce photos or video anywhere, everything can be a production space and that’s really far from the truth. Every space is different the quality of light is different. The creative opportunities are different. Whether it is a modern setting with a view of an urban skyline or is it exposed brick with wooden beams. They are all different and they serve different purposes. The supply and demand are heterogeneous.”

Berlin Inspiration: The LUX & ASA Story

In October 2018 the Space for Arts team spent the better part of a week in Berlin introducing SfA to the local market. During the course of the team’s stay a number of Berlin photo studios were visited. The team was fascinated by the story of Lux & Asa, in the Lichtenberg neighborhood of Berlin, as told to them by co-founder Jan Kraus.

“We opened our doors in March 2016 after Max and I spent a year renovating and rehabbing the space.   We were a bit naïve about how much work it would take to renovate 3,250 square feet of space in an industrial warehouse, creating a photo/film studio from scratch. I guess it was good that we just started working without thinking too much about the challenge we were facing. Without the help of friends and family and most importantly, Bruno, we would […]

“Creative Space” Mission with EyeEm Kicks Off Summer Projects

Space for Arts and EyeEm teamed up this summer to sponsor a mission looking for photographic representations of creative space. Creative space is a concept embracing the mental, physical, and emotional environments within which creativity operates. It is something you must carve out and claim for yourself. The mission launched June 13th, with a week for photographers of all levels from across the globe to submit their favorite shots.

EyeEm is the world’s leading mobile photography community marketplace, making it a prime resource for photographers, producers, and creative directors alike. Unlike platforms such as Instagram and Snapchat, which focus on real time communication, EyeEm is building the next generation photography content platform. The Berlin-based company has created a rich digital archive of photos. Photographers retain their rights and are in control of choosing which photos to sell to brands, agencies, designers, etc. And with millions of images to […]
