SfA is pleased to announce that Ellie Pritts has been named Director of Digital Marketing.  Recently, she chatted with us about joining SfA and her journey from photography to digital marketing.

You’ve been involved with SfA for about a year now, what has drawn you to a more formal and involved role?
It really comes down to two things: passion and company culture. As a photographer and production professional, I am innately passionate about the many ways Space for Arts seeks to improve the studio booking process. The need for a comprehensive solution is definitely there, and I truly believe in Space for Arts’ ability to revolutionize that part of our industry. Michele Romero joins SfA Advisory Board

Space for Arts (“SfA”) is very pleased to announce that Michele Romero has agreed to join our Advisory Board.

Michele Romero is a senior level Creative Director of Original Image Content with a focus on global pop culture for brands with worldwide social media reach.  She spent 29 years at Entertainment Weekly Magazine as a Photo Editor–from start-up until it’s recent move to a monthly brand. Michele has produced award winning work from concept to final product with renowned professional photographers such as, Brigitte Lacombe, Mary Ellen Mark, Anton Corbijn, Art Streiber, Martin Schoeller, Platon, Peggy Sirota, Marco Grob, Michael Muller, Danny Clinch, Dana Lixenberg, Dan Winters, Ruven Afanador, Frank W. “Women in Photography” Event

Space for Arts’ co-founders culminated a 4-day visit to Berlin by hosting Karen Frank & Allyson Torrisi for a discussion of their work and “Women in Photography” for an invited group of studio owners, photographers and creatives.

Allyson, Deputy Director of Photography for People Magazine formerly of Popular Mechanics, described her creative process and the planning of the photography used in Popular Mechanics illustrating articles on topics as diverse as the iPhone, shale fracking and nuclear power plants.

Karen Frank, Director of Photography of ESPN Magazine presented iconic images from ESPN’s much heralded “Body Issue.”  Karen described the inspiration, process and sensitivity needed to capture powerful images of elite athletes while nude.

EyeEm and Space for Arts Team Up to Provide 100 Hours of Studio Time for Photographers in NYC

Beginning today, photographers can apply for up to 10 hours of free studio time

July 12, 2018

Photography community EyeEm and Space for Arts, an online photo studio booking platform, have partnered to provide 100 hours of free studio space to photographers in New York City in the month of August.

Starting today, photographers can apply via this form for ½ day or full day shoots in one of two studios on the Space for Arts platform. Applications will be accepted for ten days, after which EyeEm and Space for Arts will vet each application and pick passion projects to support.

“We’ve always been about the love of photography and sharing important visual stories,” said EyeEm Co-founder and CEO Florian Meissner. “This partnership allows us to provide a space for photographers to do just that, to shoot their passion projects without the burden of spending money on a space.”

How Sketching Creates Great Photography

Leading up to our event with The Society of Publication Designers with Art Streiber and Michele Romero we were able to get some time with Michele to talk process. As the senior photo editor at Entertainment Weekly she is often charged with creating iconic cover images in short time frames. At Space for Arts we know that finding the perfect photo studio in New York or location in Los Angeles is just one part of the process.

Sketching and reference have been essential tools for Michele, sparking collaboration and creative thinking at a weekly magazine —particularly in creating covers. Space For Arts Launch at Norwood

On Tuesday November 15th the Space For Arts team gathered at the Norwood Club on West 14th street in New York to celebrate the launch of Space For Arts –the only studio listings website built specifically for the photography community.
